Passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital in the presence of his family, Gordon Timothy Raymond (Gord) Phillips of Bunyan’s Cove. Predeceased by his loving wife, Alice Phillips (Holloway); parents: Timothy and Selina Phillips; his brothers: Gary and Clayton Phillips; and sister, Melita Phillips. Leaving to mourn his sons: Raymond (Cindy Strong) and Randy (Kathy); daughters: Pauline Garrett (Derek), Pamela Phillips (Chris Dawson), Donna King (Rupert), Darlene Young (Steve) and Wanda Keats (Brad); and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Also, leaving to mourn his brothers: Frank (Pearl), Gilbert (Doris), Lloyd (Gloria) and Philip (Grace); and sister, Vera Lynn Reid (Randy). As well as, his sisters-in-law: Glenda Phillips and Bessie Holloway; brothers-in-laws: William Holloway and William Butler; and many nieces and nephews.

Gordon began work in the lumber camps in his early teens and moved on to work in construction as a heavy equipment operator working for multiple companies in Newfoundland and Nova Scotia. In the early 1980’s, he returned to Bunyan’s Cove to start his own business with the hard work and support of his wife, Alice. Together they built a very successful Construction company, Phillips’ Enterprise, and Gas Station that serviced the Clarenville and Bonavista Bay area. Gord was renowned for his strong work ethic and love for heavy equipment. Up until his recent passing, he continued to work on his heavy equipment.

In addition to his work, he was also a founding member of the Lions’s Club in Bunyan’s Cove and donated to many charities.

Gord leaves many strong and fond memories for his family, as well as the many people who had the privilege to work alongside him throughout the years and for the entire community of Bunyan’s Cove where he lived his entire life. He will be missed by all!

Resting at St. Paul’s United Church, Bunyans Cove. Visitation will be on Friday, June 21 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 22, 2024 at St. Paul’s United Church, Bunyans Cove with interment to follow at the United Cemetery, Bunyans Cove.
